The Simon McQuoid directed Mortal Kombat (2021) is the most in-demand film title in May’s piracy data. The film had almost 20m unlicensed streams and downloads since its release in April 2021, largely driven by audiences in the US and Russia.

Although 2021 film releases occupy the top 10 of the most pirated films in May, over 40 older film releases appear in the top 100 titles for global piracy. Of these back catalogue films, 6 have seen an increase in popularity of over 50% in MUSO’s piracy data in May 2021 compared to April 2021.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (2019) saw over 1 million downloads and unlicensed streams in May 2021, close to a 50% increase on the previous month with strong audience demand from the Philippines and India.

Fifty Shades Darker (2017) has increased downloads and streams by over 75% in May 2021 compared to April 2021. This demand was largely driven by US and UK audiences, where the film was viewed 3 times more in May than April. The film's prequel 50 Shades Of Grey (2014) also appears in the global piracy top 100.
A Quiet Place Part II (2021) was released on May 28th and is the 23rd most popular pirated film with almost 1m unlicensed downloads and streams in the last few days of May alone. Interest in A Quiet Place Part II resulted in increased demand for the prequel A Quiet Place (2018) by over 345% in May 2021 compared to April 2021 and made it the 42nd most in-demand film in MUSO’s piracy data.

Project Power (2020) continues to be popular amongst piracy audiences, with Germany accounting for 20% of the demand alone. Since its release in August 2020, Project Power has had almost 6 million unlicensed downloads and streams.
