Our Story

Created after CEO Andy Chatterley experienced the problem first-hand

MUSO began in 2009 when CEO Andy Chatterley was working on the release of an album on an independent music label. Ten days before launch, the entire record leaked onto piracy sites. The album was expected to chart and the label were concerned with the losses to piracy.

There was no effective solution that could tackle the leak at scale and prevent the release from being derailed.

So the MUSO founders built one.

The first version of MUSO’s content protection system worked. It found, verified and removed the illegal content quickly and proved there was a scalable way to protect digital media. Word spread fast. MUSO soon began supporting music, then film, gaming, publishing, software, and TV, any sector affected by digital piracy.

As the platform grew, something much bigger emerged; MUSO was capturing a vast universe of unstructured data, a real-time map of piracy visits and ultimately what audiences watched when price and access fell away. This insight marked the next evolution of the company.

Our Evolution

From protection to intelligence at a global scale

Anti-piracy work is hard to measure. To give rights holders clarity, MUSO began analysing consumption patterns across film and TV. This became the foundation of MUSO’s Discover dataset.

What it revealed was transformative. The world’s unlicensed audience, the shadow market, represents real attention, real demand, and real value. Rights holders use this intelligence to guide decisions around commissioning, acquisition, marketing, and distribution.

Today, MUSO’s data shines a light on what people are actually watching across global markets, helping customers turn hidden demand into strategic advantage.

Who We Are Today

The gold standard in content protection, piracy intelligence and audience demand data.

MUSO is not simply a takedown tool. Enterprise customers rely on a combination of technology, automation, and human expertise to protect content and understand unlicensed audience behaviour.

Our platform delivers advanced detection, verification, and enforcement across film, TV, music, software, publishing, and gaming, supported by a global legal and compliance function and real-time reporting. At the same time, MUSO measures unlicensed consumption at scale, analysing popularity trends across movies, TV shows, subgenres, talent, and audience affinity to surface emerging patterns in demand.

Together, this enables MUSO to enforce across global piracy networks while transforming unlicensed film and TV consumption into strategic intelligence, helping studios and distributors make better decisions around licensing, commissioning, marketing, and release strategy.
