MUSO is currently protecting four titles in the UK top ten ‐ we look at the state of play.

This week, MUSO is being employed by record labels to protect 40% of the titles in the UK Top 40 albums chart ‐ we take a closer look at exactly what that means with a snapshot view of current piracy levels for all ten titles.

At No. 1 this week is Jack White’s ‘Blunderbuss’ and with just 12 illegal files available across over 3m illegal pages, the former White Stripes frontman is one place ahead of a long-running MUSO-protected title, Adele’s massive-selling ’21’.

’21’ has just 6 available files online at the time of search, while in stark contrast both Lana Del Ray’s ‘Born To Die’ and Nicki Minaj’s ‘Pink Friday Roman Reloaded’ have a total over 1,000 illegal files between them.

Rufus Wainwright’s ‘Out Of The Game’ fares a little better with 73 illegal files discovered, followed by the remaining two titles using MUSO protection ‐ Alabama Shakes’ ‘Boy & Girls’ and Olly Murs’ ‘IN Case You Didn’t Know’, which showed 0 live files at the time of the survey.

From No. 8 to ten it’s the same story, with a massive 756 live files discovered for Jessie J’s ‘Who You Are’ and an even bigger total for David Guetta’s Nothing But The Beat’, closing on almost 2,000 live illegal files.

MUSO employs a variety of different search techniques to discover the highest number of illegally infringing files for a release, and we also look for the most visible illegal files ‐ replicating fan behavior with our C2D (clicks to download) search which rates the number of clicks it takes to download a live illegal copy. This survey was conducted 28.04.2012.

A great chart week for our protected artists, and we wish them continued success with their releases!
